We’re proud to have achieved FSC® Chain of Custody Certification

We are happy to share that we have earned an FSC® Chain of Custody Certification. Sustainability is at the core of what we do here at Stell. It always has been. After 150 years of continuous production and supply of cardboard tubes and cores, we can justifiably claim to be a sustainable business in the truest sense of the word – and we don’t say that lightly. This certification is another concrete step in that story, and it demonstrates our commitment to responsible sourcing in a way our customers can independently verify, not just take our word for.

  1. What is the FSC® Chain of Custody, and why does it matter?

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) sets the global standard for responsible forest management: protecting biodiversity, respecting forest workers and communities, and ensuring forests can regenerate rather than being stripped for short-term gain. Chain of Custody certification carries that promise through the supply chain – every organisation handling FSC-certified material, from the forest to the finished product, must prove it is tracked, separated, and documented. Our customers have real confidence that FSC-certified materials can be traced through every stage of our supply chain, from responsibly managed forests to the tubes and cores that are used on their production line.

  1. 150 years of responsible sourcing and practice

Sustainability at Stell means running the business with due regard for everyone we work with and for, and with a constant eye on the long-term future as well as the here and now. It’s why we’re already an ISO 14001 accredited manufacturer, why our 100,000 sq. ft site runs on solar power alongside the grid, and why we operate a biomass boiler and heating system built around recycled materials. We’re always looking at how we can trim our energy use, sharpen our efficiency and lighten our footprint where it’s genuinely practical to do so.

FSC® Chain of Custody certification sits naturally alongside all of that. It gives our customers something independently audited to point to, whether they’re working towards their own environmental targets or simply want reassurance that the materials behind our products are what we say they are.

  1. Committed to doing things right

Achieving this certification didn’t happen by accident. It reflects the standards that we have always held ourselves to – rigorous record-keeping, clear processes, and a genuine buy-in from people across the business who care about getting things done properly. That’s very much the way we do things round here, and this certification confirms it. We treat sustainability the same way we treat everything else: with a strong sense of responsibility to the people and businesses we work with, and a determination to do the right thing rather than the easy thing.
